Early Forms: Baseball has been traced back as far as the 1300s in various countries and each country had their own form. A few of the forms are mentioned. The Russians' game was called lapta. Lapta was a game that involved a field of about 150 feet and was with 5 to 10 players on each team. The batter would hit the ball and try to round the bases without getting hit by the ball. The Germans played a similar game, Schlagball. A bowler threw a ball to a striker, who hit it with a club and then tried to run around a circuit of bases without getting hit with the ball by a defender. Also many folk games had characteristics that are similar to baseball, rounders and cricket. These are just the origins that baseball can be traced from and before 1845 and the actual evolution of the game is unknown. |
